A three-time NCAA All-American and ACC Champion for Virginia Tech, Walz was among the first Hokies to successfully transition from collegiate wrestling to the international freestyle scene. Following his collegiate career, he became a cornerstone of the SERTC, dedicating himself to both his own competitive goals and the growth of the RTC.

Walz's freestyle accomplishments include earning a spot on the 2017 U23 World Team, becoming the first wrestler in Virginia Tech and SERTC history to represent Team USA at a U23 World Championship. His achievement helped establish a pathway for future Hokies pursuing international opportunities and demonstrated that athletes training in Blacksburg could compete with the best wrestlers in the world.

Throughout his time as a resident athlete, Walz served as a leader within the RTC training environment. His work ethic, toughness, and commitment to continuous improvement set an example for younger athletes while helping elevate the daily level of competition in the room. Whether preparing athletes for NCAA competition or international events, Walz has consistently been willing to invest his time and knowledge into the development of those around him.

As the SERTC has continued to grow, Walz has remained an integral part of its success. His unique perspective as both a Virginia Tech alumnus and former Team USA representative allows him to connect with athletes pursuing excellence at every level of the sport. His experiences competing nationally and internationally, combined with his dedication to the Hokie Wrestling program, make him a valuable asset to the continued growth of the SERTC.

Walz's impact extends far beyond his accomplishments on the mat. His leadership, loyalty to the program, and commitment to helping athletes reach their full potential have helped shape the culture of Virginia Tech Wrestling and the SERTC, ensuring a strong foundation for future generations of Hokies.
